Rosalba Lara was born in Belize, but grew up in Portland, Oregon where she started her early dance training at the age of six. Rosalba trained in the Royal Academy of Dance method until the age of 16 when she passed her major examinations. She continued her ballet training in the Vaganova method at a ballet school in Oregon City. Rosalba went on to study other dance forms in college such as Tap, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco and Argentine Tango. Rosalba also choreographed and performed in several dances for the annual spring dance concert at Portland Community College. Rosalba was selected to train at American Ballet Theatre’s first collegiate summer intensive and was invited back the following year. At ABT, Rosalba had the pleasure of studying under Brian Reeder, Nancy Raffa, Kate Lydon and Desmond Richardson as well as other notable artists. Rosalba loved NYC so much she decided to stay and train at Studio Maestro by ABT’s recommendation. At Studio Maestro, Rosalba trained in the Paris Opera Ballet style under Francois Perron, Deborah Wingert and Marina Stavitskaya. While in New York City, Rosalba also trained and performed with Ajkun Ballet Theatre and Peridance Capezio Center. Rosalba also had the pleasure of being selected by Kevin McKenzie to appear onstage for ABT’s productions of Romeo and Juliet featuring Alessandra Ferri in her farewell performances at the Metropolitan Opera House. Rosalba eventually moved to Washington D.C. where she gave birth to her son
Salvatore James. While raising her child in D.C. she continued her dance training at Maryland Youth Ballet and DC Contemporary Dance Theatre. Rosalba moved to Raleigh, North Carolina a few months ago with her now 5 year old son. She is currently a Pointe Shoe Fitter and Sales Associate at Releve Dancewear in Cary. She is excited to be joining the Faculty at Carolina Dance Productions.
